YP – MEC releases poll showing more Mississippi voters favor state seal flag
On Wednesday, the Mississippi Economic Council released results from a recent poll by the Tarrance Group showing for the first time a majority of Mississippians favor changing the state flag.
The poll was performed June 16-18, 2020. The results show a significant change in public opinion from just a year ago. Fifty-four percent (54%) of respondents said they would vote against changing the state flag 18 months ago. Now, according to this polling, fifty-five percent (55%) would support changing the state flag.

YP – Reeves: If Legislature has votes to suspend rules on flag, veto is pointless
Some legislative leaders have changed their position multiple times in recent days. Right now, they are considering suspending the rules to change the flag. It would take a two-thirds vote. That’s how many it takes to override a veto.
Make no mistake, a vote to change the rules is a vote to change the flag. If they get those votes, a veto would be pointless. That debate would be over, and the flag would change.

YP – Hyde-Smith decries irresponsible blocking of JUSTICE Act by Senate Democrats
U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) today decried Senate Democrats’ decision to deny Senate debate on significant police reform legislation, asserting that blocking the bill leaves the nation with “irresponsible demands to defund the police, destruction of public property, and violence.”
Just one week after the introduction of the JUSTICE Act (S.3985), Democrats blocked a procedural vote to begin debate on the bill. The legislation incorporates broad bipartisan reforms to restore public trust by improving community safety through police training reforms and greater law enforcement accountability.

YP – Cory Wilson confirmed by U.S. Senate to serve on Fifth Circuit
Wednesday morning, Mississippian Cory Wilson was confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve on the United States Fifth Circuit by a vote of 52-48. He is the 200th judicial appointment nominated by President Donald Trump to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
Wilson replaces Judge E. Grady Jolly on the Court.
President Trump initially nominated Wilson for a seat on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District in October 2019 but withdrew that nomination in favor of nominating Wilson for the Fifth Circuit in March 2020 after the nomination of Judge Sul Ozerden ran into political headwinds among both Democrats and Republicans.
