YP – China targets Mississippi following AG Lynn Fitch’s COVID-19 lawsuit; Gov. Tate Reeves responds
At the center of story are the recent lawsuits filed against the Communist nation in the wake of the coronavirus, one of which the State of Mississippi is party to by way of Attorney General Lynn Fitch. Fitch’s lawsuit followed Missouri’s action and targeted Beijing, seeking to hold them accountable for suppressing information on the outbreak.
According to The Global Times, Chinese officials and experts called Fitch’s lawsuit “ridiculous” and “absurd.”

YP – Transportation Commission awards lottery proceeds
The Mississippi Transportation Commission this week awarded the first seven pavement restoration projects funded by lottery proceeds.
“MDOT is so appreciative of the legislature for designating a portion of the lottery proceeds to Mississippi’s maintenance needs. These funds will help MDOT ensure our highways stay safe for the traveling public,” Commissioner Tom King, Chair, Mississippi Transportation Commission. “We aren’t wasting any time utilizing these funds. MDOT’s already awarded numerous projects throughout the state and you will see them start moving forward quickly.”

YP – Mississippi Republican delegation votes against HEROES Act, Proxy Voting
The U.S. House of Representatives returned last week to debate two pieces of legislation, H. Res. 965 and H.R. 6800. H. Res. 965 is what Republicans have termed as the Proxy Voting Scheme 2.0 by House Democrats allowing for remote voting by members as the coronavirus pandemic continues, while H.R. 6800 or the HEROES Act is referred to as Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s Socialist Wish List.
Both measures passed the Democrat controlled chamber. Remote voting passed 217-189 with no Republican support while the HEROES Act passed 208-199 with one Republican, Rep. Pete King (NY) voting in the affirmative. The proxy voting measure is now in place while the HEROES Act heads to the U.S. Senate for consideration.

YP – Have Democrats already conceded the upcoming Mississippi senate election?
The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is the only organization solely dedicated to electing a Democratic U.S. Senate. So the omission of Mississippi as one of their targets to defeat in November says a lot about how they view the race.
In an email update sent Friday, the DSCC said, “Democrats only need FOUR seats to flip the Senate, and here are ELEVEN vulnerable Republicans we can defeat,” naming the likes of Cory Gardner in Colorado, Kelly Loeffler in Georgia and Martha McSally in Arizona among the group.
But Cindy Hyde-Smith in Mississippi was not among the lot.

WJTV – Mississippi county offers tax breaks to two solar proposals
The Commercial Dispatch reports Lowndes County supervisors on Friday voted unanimously to offer the property tax incentives to two companies considering building the installations to supply electricity to the Tennessee Valley Authority.
Each could generate up to 200 megawatts in electricity. Golden Triangle Development Link CEO Joe Max Higgins says the two projects could bring $260 million of initial investment.
