The Mississippi House of Representatives has announced a comprehensive list of committee assignments for the next term.
At first glance, it seemed less changes were made to committee chairmanships in this chamber than the Senate. This could be due to no change being made in Speaker of the House, Philip Gunn.

Powerball and Mega Millions ticket sales will begin in Mississippi Jan. 30.
Sales of scratch-off lottery tickets in the state began in November and have been brisk. The same is expected of Powerball and Mega Millions ticket sales since Mississippians will no longer have to cross state lines to play.
WDAM – Retired Staff Sgt. awarded Purple Heart
Retired Staff Sgt. Robert E. Carter was awarded the Purple Heart after being injured in combat in Iraq in 2009. Mississippi Rep. Steven Palazzo presented the medal to Carter on Thursday.
Carter served in the United States Army for 12 years. He was previously assigned to A Company, 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division, in Schweinfurt, Germany in 2007 and was deployed to Baghdad under the Dagger Brigade in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

WLOX / WLBT – SNAP recipients receive funding to buy healthier foods
SNAP shoppers will buy produce from participating farmer’s markets, produce stands and grocery stores and for each dollar spent they will get an additional dollar on their next purchase, up to $20.00 a day.
Erin Smith is the Double Up Food Bucks MS Director and wrote the grant to get the funding.
“It’s also helping the most needy, the most vulnerable populations. we have children that are, living in Mississippi we don’t realize that they are food insecure. they are hungry,” said Smith. “Low income moms they wanted to be able too give their children more access to fresh fruits and vegetables”.
The statewide program begins in March with 10 locations and will include the Mississippi Delta and the Gulf Coast.
