Mississippi Dept. of Public Safety Commissioner Marshall Fisher resigns

Marshall Fisher announced he was resigning as the Commissioner of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, effective January 31, 2020.

“I am deeply grateful to Gov. Phil Bryant for the support and confidence he displayed entrusting me to serve in various capacities of law enforcement and public safety for the state of Mississippi,” Fisher said in a statement. “This state has been extremely fortunate to benefit from his foresight and integrity. God has truly blessed to have been fortunate enough to serve both in the military and law enforcement for more than four decades.”

Fisher was appointed as DPS Commissioner in in 2017, after previously serving as Commissioner of the Department of Corrections since 2015.

Incoming Governor Tate Reeves will make the appointment of the next Commissioner of Public Safety to replace Fisher.
