SUNHERALD – Mississippi voters are choosing nominees in party runoffs
Mississippi voters will decide the outcome of party primary runoffs Tuesday, setting the November ballot for governor and other races.
Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves and retired Mississippi Supreme Court Justice Bill Waller Jr. are competing for the Republican nomination for governor. The winner will face Democratic Attorney General Jim Hood, the Constitution Party’s Bob Hickingbottom and independent candidate David Singletary in the general election.
In the attorney general’s race, state Treasurer Lynn Fitch and former gubernatorial chief of staff Andy Taggart are in Tuesday’s Republican runoff. The winner will advance to the general election to face Democrat Jennifer Riley Collins, who is a military veteran and former director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Mississippi.

WTOK – More than 27,000 absentee ballots requested for runoffs
The Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office says, as of 1 p.m. Monday,
24,347 of the requested 27,518 absentee ballots for the primary runoffs had been received back to circuit clerk offices around the state.
More than 42,000 absentee ballots were returned for the first primaries Aug. 6.
More than 1.8 million Mississippians are registered to vote. Census data estimates the state’s eligible voting age population to be about 2.2 million.

WLOX – DeLano officially files petition contesting results of District 50 State Senate race
Scott Delano is taking the next step to overturn the results of the District 50 State Senate election. On Monday DeLano filed a petition with the Republican Executive Committee contesting the results of the race, which Dixie Newman won by one vote.
“This is the integrity of the vote we’re talking about, the integrity of this election,” DeLano said.
DeLano is questioning the integrity of the District 50 State Senate Republican primary election after completing a review of the election materials.
WDAM – Congressman Trent Kelly endorses Delbert Hosemann in bid for Lieutenant Governor
Congressman Trent Kelly endorsed Delbert Hosemann Monday in his election bid for Lieutenant Governor, citing his leadership and proven record established during his three-term tenure as Secretary of State.
“The Lieutenant Governor is an extremely important position in Mississippi because of its proximity to the budget and policy,” Congressman Kelly said. “Delbert Hosemann is a conservative, and he has been a strong advocate for our public schools and businesses. Delbert is the right person to lead our State as our next Lieutenant Governor. I hope you’ll join me in voting for him on November 5.”
Over the years, Hosemann and Congressman Kelly have partnered on consumer protection and other projects dating back to Congressman Kelly’s days as a District Attorney in the First Circuit.
