On Tuesday, the Mississippi Book Festival announced that current sitting U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor would be participating in the 2019 festival.
On Friday, August 16th, Sonia Sotomayor will share Turning Pages, her children’s autobiography, with 4th and 5th graders from public schools across the metro area. Sotomayor will be joined in conversation with Margaret McMullan the following Saturday, August 17th, as she shares the stories of her past and lessons learned throughout her life in law. Both of Sotomayor’s appearances will be held in the Sanctuary at Galloway as part of the Mississippi Book Festival’s 5th Anniversary.

A true trailblazer, Sotomayor made her mark on American history with her 2009 U.S. Supreme Court appointment, becoming the first Latina and third woman to hold the esteemed title of U.S. Supreme Court Justice. She began her career as an Assistant District Attorney in New York City before moving to the private sector in 1984. In her 40 years of practicing law, Sotomayor has served on the U.S. District Court, Southern District Court of New York and the U. S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit. My Beloved World, her national best-selling autobiography, details Sotomayor’s troubled childhood, inspiring career, and the important role that books have played in her world.
