How a Grocery Store Ad Sparked Social Media War Over Immigration Comment

By: Courtney Ingle - February 12, 2019

Mac’s Fresh Market, a regional grocery store with locations in Durant and Ridgeland, has sparked controversy after using a quote relating Christianity to the ongoing conversation of securing the nation’s border in its most recent circular.

The quote read “Heaven has a wall, a gate and a strict immigration policy. Hell has open borders. Let that sink in.”

Social media came alive with commenters both supporting and rebuking the chain for taking such a stance.

Now a week following the original post, the chain is still receiving both supportive and opposing messages on their social media posts that have no mention of immigration or the original message from February 6th.

In an interview with Business Insider, Mac’s Fresh Market Owner Reggie McDaniel said he was shocked over the reaction, and that it has garnered worldwide attention.

The owner said Ronald Reagan’s famous quote regarding abortion will be included in the next ad.

“I’ve noticed that everyone who is for abortion has already been born,” is the quote.

McDaniel also said his only intention was to lead people to Christ.
