Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann preps the public on heading to the polls tomorrow for the runoff election between Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith and Mike Espy, as well as several contested judicial races.
He announced that the absentee ballots gathered for the runoff election at 46,428 requested, compared back to 69,902 for the general election.
“We are running at about two thirds. We had healthy lines on Saturday at the circuit clerks. We were very pleased to see people come in and cast their ballot,” said Hosemann. “The turn out three weeks ago was a record for mid-year elections.”
Hosemann said there will be about 35 people from the Secretary of State’s office all across the state in 40 counties to ensure that elections go well on Tuesday. As of now, no federal observers will be coming to Mississippi.
“We are looking forward to another large turnout. The ballot will be smaller,” said Hosemann. “We encourage everyone to get out and vote.”
