State Auditor Shad White Announces New Transparency Website

By: Sarah Ulmer - August 20, 2018

Today State Auditor Shad White announced the launch of a new section of the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor website dedicated to transparency. Many contracts, requests for proposals, and various other documents from the office will be posted online at www.osa.ms.gov/transparency.

The auditor’s office is committed to being the most transparent state agency in Mississippi. “We wanted to compile these documents in one location for easy viewing,” said White. “An important part of being transparent is making public information easily accessible and searchable. Making these documents easy-to-find will also save time by eliminating the need for some public records requests.” The site will be regularly updated to add new documents as they are created by the office.

Auditor White said, “Transparency is essential to creating trust and preventing fraud in government. It also serves as a disinfectant. When Mississippians see how an agency awards contracts, it helps prevent favoritism and corruption. People have a right to know how we do business and spend their money. This new addition to our website allows this office to simultaneously educate the public and be held accountable for its work. I encourage everyone to visit the site.”

Shad White was appointed the 42nd State Auditor of Mississippi by Governor Phil Bryant in July 2018. Before becoming Auditor, White served as Director of the Mississippi Justice Institute, a conservative public interest law institute. White has also practiced law in the private sector, served as a special prosecutor, and taught as an adjunct professor. The son of an oilfield pumper and school teacher, White grew up in rural Jones County and went on to earn degrees from Ole Miss, the University of Oxford, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar, and Harvard Law School. Today, he and his wife Rina live in Rankin County and attend St. Richard Church.
