BOBBY HARRISON: Wicker leads GOP success in Senate elections
Roger Wicker was not on the ballot this year, but the Republican U.S. senator still faced enormous pressure leading up to the Nov. 8 election.
Wicker, who is still in his first full term in the United States Senate, served as chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, meaning he headed up the effort to elect Republicans to the Senate.
The task was especially daunting this year since Republicans had the seats of 24 incumbents to defend – many in states viewed as more favorable for Democratic candidates.
In the end, the Democrats picked up two seats, but the Republicans will still have a majority.
