Jury finds Kenneth Fairley guilty on all three counts
A jury on Monday found the Rev. Kenneth Fairley guilty of two counts of theft of government funds and one count of conspiracy to defraud the government, involving money received from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development through grants administered by the city of Hattiesburg.
Jay Golden, lead attorney for the government, said he was pleased with the outcome of the trial. He said all other comments would have to come from Greg K. Davis, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Mississippi.
Attempts to reach Davis after business hours Monday were unsuccessful.
Fairley, 62, pastor of Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Hattiesburg, was taken into custody immediately following the trial by the U.S. Marshals Service until sentencing on Nov. 21. He was booked into the Forrest County Jail.
