Mike Byrd exonerated in malicious prosecution suit
A federal jury decided Thursday there was no malicious prosecution by former Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd in the 2011 arrest of then Ocean Springs Alderman James Hagan.
Hagan filed a federal lawsuit alleging malicious prosecution after embezzlement and other charges against him were dropped when a grand jury found there was not enough evidence to prosecute.
