Petition Hopes to Stop Confederate Heritage Month as April Approaches
The bill that could bring the question of changing the state flag to the people was killed in committee. Not long after, Governor Phil Bryant declared April to be “Confederate Heritage Month.”
Now there is a petition circulating the internet to have Governor Bryant retract his proclamation. “The Petition to Amend or Retract Mississippi’s Confederate Heritage Month Proclamation” is currently on Change.org and is authored by The University of Mississippi Critical Race Study Group. The petition, geared toward the State House, Senate, and Governor has reached 121 of its 200 signature goal.
