State Sen. HOB BRYAN: Pending bills would wreck public education
Most people who consider themselves Republicans support public education. Some of the strongest supporters of public education over the years have been Republicans. Unfortunately, the radical faction that’s in temporary control of the state Legislature doesn’t believe in public education, and that’s a problem.
This radical faction hopes to replace our public school system with a voucher system. Instead of having a public school system open to all children in the community, there would be a voucher system, sending children to whatever school their guardians choose. As for standards? Well, that’s none of the government’s business.
With amazingly little fanfare, bills promoting this agenda are working their way through the Legislature. They could become law before most voters even know they are being considered.
Sen. Hob Bryan, D-Amory, has served in the Mississippi Senate since 1984.
