DeSoto Co. Reps. Criswell, Henley against tax increase but willing to discuss infrastructure repairs

By: Magnolia Tribune - February 23, 2016

Fueling Debate

“I’ve heard some talk about it,” State Rep. Dana Criswell, R-Olive Branch, said Monday. “I’m on the transportation committee. With the Better Highways Act of 1987, we did not set aside any money for maintenance of our roads and bridges. But even in saying that, nobody can convince me to vote for an increase in the fuel tax. We took a lot of money to build a lot of roads but everybody kicked the ball on down the road as far as maintenance is concerned. I’m still against any kind of tax increase and that includes a fuel tax increase.”

Rep. Ashley Henley, R-Horn Lake, expressed a similar sentiment but wanted to explore the ramifications of any such bill which might surface.
