COCHRAN: FEMA GRANTS AVAILABLE FOR MISS. STATE & LOCAL GOVERNMENTS
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) today announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is making available grants that could assist the State of Mississippi and municipalities with emergency preparedness and disaster mitigation.
“Grants can be a valuable tool to augment and enhance local and state emergency preparedness and public safety efforts,” Cochran said. “I encourage state and local officials to take note of this resource.”
FEMA is making the following formula-based funding available for Mississippi applicants:
· $4,556,932 for the Emergency Management Preparedness Grant, which assists state, local and tribal governments with hazard and disaster preparedness.
· $3,734,500 for the State Homeland Security Program, which provides funding for anti-terrorism and disaster preparation and recovery.
Several other grant opportunities are also made available on a competitive basis:
· Port Security Grant Program, with $100 million available nationally, provides grants to support transportation security projects consistent with Area Maritime Security Plans and facility security plans.
· Operation Stonegarden, with $55 million available nationally, provides grants to law enforcement agencies to strengthen border security and enforcement in states with land or international water borders.
· Tribal Homeland Security Grant Program, with $10 million available nationally, provides grants directly to eligible tribes to help strengthen the nation against risks associated with potential terrorist attacks.
