Incumbent Republican state Sen. Melanie Sojourner of Natchez loses election, but plans to inspect ballots.
Sojourner had been locked in a heated re-election battle against Democrat Bob Dearing, who she ousted four years ago. Dearing was declared the winner of the race by roughly 62 votes.
Keith Plunkett, a spokesman for Sojourner, said late Friday that she plans to inspect the ballots, which could lead to a challenge. He said the decision came after two people in Franklin County filed affidavits against precinct workers, alleging improprieties.
