#McGOP crew ramping up pre-election rhetoric on #MSflag

By: Magnolia Tribune - October 27, 2015

The #McGOP state senators (both of them) of the legislature is at it again on the interwebs. This time it’s the state flag. There are all sorts of pre-election threats out there clearly implying that flying the state flag should be tied to the continued funding of universities. Of course, several publicly funded higher education institutions in this state haven’t flown the state flag for years, but that’s likely lost on most of the #McGOP.

Yesterday, in what is now a sponsored Facebook post, Chris McDaniel said “Ole Miss should fly it (the flag), as long as they remain a publicly funded university.”

Universities are supposed to be marketplaces of ideas, not cocoons designed for coddling the feelings of the perpetually…

The Ole Miss student senate now brings to a total of three the senatorial bodies in which he has no influence (US and MS being the other two).

Yesterday, Melanie Sojourner went a step further than McDaniel and committed in the comments of her Facebook post on the state flag . . . “If re-elected I’ll draft legislation to clarify that out state flag MUST fly over all publicly funded entities.”

Today the Ole Miss chancellor ordered the state flag be removed. They are too offended to fly our flag, but not so much…

Sen. Sojourner should certainly be asked what her proposed consequences would be if a University or other “publicly funded entity” did not comply.

So there you have it. If re-elected expect a bill from Sojourner to condition state funding on flying the flag. We at Y’allPolitics CANNOT WAIT for that bill to drop. Hopefully, everything in it will be spelled correctly.

Expect the associated fundraising mailer from them shortly.
