Education asking for more than half of state budget increases from JLBC

By: Magnolia Tribune - September 29, 2015

Education entities have big budget requests

The state’s three educational entities – universities, community colleges and kindergarten through 12th grade – account for more than half of the requested budget increases for the upcoming fiscal year, which starts July 1.

State agency heads are asking for a cumulative increase of $732.7 million for the upcoming fiscal year, the 14-member Legislative Budget Committee learned last week. The Budget Committee is working on a budget proposal for the full Legislature to use as a starting point in funding state government during the 2016 session.
