Mississippi’s November 2015 Statewide Ballot Approved
JACKSON—In accordance with state law, Gov. Phil Bryant has approved the ballot to be used in the Nov. 3, 2015 statewide election. Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann presented the sample ballot to the governor for approval today at a public meeting of the State Board of Election Commissioners. The Board includes the governor, the secretary of state and the attorney general.
The approved ballot will be provided to election commissioners in each Mississippi county for use in the Nov. 3, 2015 statewide election.
Section 23-15-367(3) of the Mississippi Code of 1972 states:
It is the duty of the Secretary of State, with the approval of the Governor, to furnish the designated commissioner of each county a sample of the official ballot, not less than fifty five (55) days prior to the election, the general form of which shall be followed as nearly as practicable.
The November ballot includes candidates for state office, such as governor; candidates for state district office, such as transportation commissioner; and candidates for legislative office. Candidates appearing on the ballot for these offices have met qualifications to run, and their candidacy has been approved by the State Board of Election Commissioners. County election commissioners are responsible for approving portions of the ballot that include candidates for county and county district offices.
The November ballot also includes two proposed constitutional amendments, Initiative 42 and Alternative 42A. In accordance with state law, a fiscal summary describing the financial impact of both Initiative 42 and Alternative 42A is included on the approved ballot. The fiscal summaries, as required by law, are provided by the Legislative Budget Office.
