MS commissioner guest speaker at Republican Women’s Luncheon
Cindy Hyde-Smith spoke to the group about the role Mississippi plays in feeding America and also our state’s influence in the global food supply. She also discussed technological improvements that make Mississippi competitive with other agricultural states.
“You know we do have a growing population and if numbers are projected by 2050, we’re going to have to increase our agriculture production of what we are currently doing by 70-percent to meet that demand by 2050,” Hyde-Smith said. “You know that can be very overwhelming and to look at the yields that I have seen increase of 400-percent just in my lifetime. The challenges are there, but I also have the confidence that we can meet those challenges. But we are certainly going to have to be diligent in getting prepared to feed the growing population.”
