Journal to host live election broadcast
TUPELO – A Mississippi conservative blogger, syndicated political columnist and Democratic strategist will help lead Daily Journal coverage during next week’s divisive GOP U.S. Senate runoff election.
The Journal will introduce an online political broadcast Tuesday evening as part of comprehensive election night coverage in the GOP face-off between six-time incumbent Thad Cochran and state Sen. Chis McDaniel.
The election night broadcast at djournal.com will include analysis from former state Rep. and College Board member Bill Crawford of Meridian, Y’all Politics blogger Frank Corder of Pascagoula and Oxford attorney and Democratic political consultant Brad Morris.
Daily Journal government and political reporter Robbie Ward will host the online broadcast. Other political observers, experts and journalists will provide election-night insight.
Tea Party favorite McDaniel, 41, received 1,418 more votes in the June 3 primary than Cochran, 76, a ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
Neither McDaniel nor Cochran received more than 50 percent of votes cast in the primary election that included a third candidate who received 1.5 percent.
The winner will face Democrat Travis Childers, a former First Congressional District representative.
The program will broadcast as a Google Hangout. It begins at 7 p.m. and continues throughout the evening. While anyone can view the program, people with Google+ accounts can ask the host, analysts and other guests questions. Twitter users also can ask questions using the hashtag #DJSen.
The broadcast also will air live victory or concession speeches from the Cochran and McDaniel campaign gatherings.
