Pickering, Hosemann step aside
Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann and State Auditor Stacey Pickering are rising political figures in state government, but their political aspirations were dealt a blow Friday when Sen. Thad Cochran announced his re-election bid.
Hosemann and Pickering had indicated they would run for Cochran’s seat in the 2014 election only if he didn’t run.
Both said they will support Cochran in his campaign for a seventh six-year term.
“Congratulations to Senator Thad Cochran in his decision to seek re-election,” Pickering said. “I look forward to his continued service to the great state of Mississippi. Senator Cochran has been the epitome of an honorable statesman and we are better off because of his service.”
