UPDATE: Scruggs asks for prison return while appeals play out
Former litigator Richard “Dick” Scruggs today asked the federal court to let him return to prison while his appeals continue.
Friday, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans turned down his attorneys’ arguments to overturn his 2009 conviction in a case involving then-Hinds Judge Bobby DeLaughter.
Scruggs, 66, has been free on $1 million bond while the appeal was considered.
Today, in a three-page motion, he says he “desires to resume serving his criminal sentence while these further appeals are pending.”
