Boyfriend: Lawmaker Jessica Upshaw battled depression
Former state Rep. Clint Rotenberry said the last weekend he spent with Rep. Jessica Upshaw was a really special one.
They had been to the Coast and had come back to his home on Saturday night. He said Sunday morning, Upshaw took a shower.
He then took his turn in the shower, and when he got out, he noticed the bedroom door was shut. Upshaw was not in the bedroom, so he went to let their dog, Beau, out.
That’s when he found Upshaw with what police said was an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“I stepped outside and I noticed (Beau) was hanging around the back of the car, so I went out there to see what he was looking at, and there she was,” he said. “I didn’t stay there long, and I didn’t see a gun, but it was obvious what had happened.”
