Miss. Charter School Law Rated Worst
Mississippi’s charter school law has once again been ranked the worst in the nation by the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools.
Minnesota is ranked No. 1, according to the alliance’s 2013 report.
Mississippi is ranked 43 and received 39 of 228 points.
In its report, the alliance criticized the state’s law saying, “significant improvements are needed in every aspect of this law, most notably by allowing start-up charter schools and virtual charter schools, providing additional authorizing options for charter applicants, beefing up the law in relation to the model law’s four quality control components, increasing operational autonomy, and ensuring equitable operational funding and equitable access to capital funding and facilities.”
