Hall – Republicans fighting exchanges once supported them

The most interesting — and head-scratching — story coming out of Jackson right now is the battle between Gov. Phil Bryant and Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney over the health insurance exchange program.

The background here should be well known, but the gist is that former Gov. Haley Barbour and Chaney tried to start an exchange for years through the Legislature, where Democrats killed it simply because of their disdain for anything backed by Barbour. Now that exchanges are mandated by the Affordable Care Act, Bryant and other Republicans who previously supported exchanges are fighting it.
