Democrat Bennie Thompson retains 2nd District US House seat

Democrat Bennie Thompson has been re-elected to the U.S. House in Mississippi’s 2nd District, which includes the Delta and most of Jackson.

He begins a two-year term in January.

Thompson, of Bolton, has held the 2nd District seat since 1993. The 64-year-old is the top Democrat on the House Homeland Security Committee.

Republican Bill Marcy of Vicksburg courted tea party voters. The 66-year-old is a former Chicago police officer. He unsuccessfully challenged Thompson in 2010.
