Ole Miss Names New Center After Ex-Governor Barbour
Former Governor Haley Barbour is being honor for attracting thousands of manufacturing jobs to MS, including Toyota and its suppliers. Yesterday, the University of Mississippi named its Center for Manufacturing Excellence after the 63rd governor. MPB’s Sandra Knispel reports.
Originally established in 2008 to prepare for Toyota’s arrival in northeast Mississippi, the center combines the university’s schools of Engineering, Business Administration and Accountancy, plus the College of Liberal Arts. Yesterday its brand new building right off the circle near the Lyceum was named in honor of former Governor Haley Barbour .
“This center, however, is about strengthening the pipeline of highly skilled workers, managers, executives. Our K-12 schools prepare our greater workforce to learn skills and go to work, or to go on to higher education, to come here. Our institutions of higher learning must prepare our best students for careers across the spectrum – and that includes manufacturing.”
