Military and Overseas Citizens Absentee Ballot Deadline Extended in Some Counties
Jackson, MS—The Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act, or “UOCAVA,” requires the transmission of absentee ballots to our military and overseas citizens 45 days prior to an election if the voter has submitted a request for a ballot on or before this date.
Hinds, Jefferson Davis and Pontotoc counties did not meet the September 22, 2012, deadline to transmit UOCAVA ballots.
“Because of our Agency’s commitment to the military and our citizens’ right to vote, by Administrative Rule we are extending the deadline for the submission of UOCAVA ballots by four days to allow our soldiers ample time to cast their ballots,” said Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann.
Eligible UOCAVA voters in Hinds, Jefferson Davis and Pontotoc counties whose ballots were not transmitted by the September 22, 2012, deadline will have until 7:00 pm on Saturday, November 10, 2012, to submit all mailed, faxed, and emailed absentee ballots.
The extension will not apply in counties which transmitted their requested absentee ballots by September 22, 2012. This extension ensures that our military and overseas citizens who may have requested a ballot have 45 days to cast their ballot.
