Bryant touts workforce training, says he wants to weld

Gov. Phil Bryant said Monday the state is poised to establish more workforce training programs for jobs in welding, carpentry and a variety of other technical trades, which he said are in high demand.

Bryant, who spoke at a gathering of the Southeastern Employment and Training Association, said companies moving to Mississippi are looking for more workers with those skills. The governor, who took office in January, talked about the state’s efforts in recent years, saying employers have spent more than $150 million on workforce training in the state since 2005, and that new programs are on the way.
