GOV. BRYANT SETS DATE FOR DESOTO COUNTY SENATE ELECTION
JACKSON—Gov. Phil Bryant today issued a Writ of Election setting Nov. 6, 2012, as the date for the election in DeSoto County to fill the vacancy in Mississippi Senate District 19.
The date coincides with the Nov. 6 general election.
“The Senate District 19 election will be held Nov. 6 so voters may have a timely opportunity to elect a new senator without bearing the cost of a special election,” Gov. Bryant said.
The qualifying deadline for candidates is Oct. 8.
Sen. Merle Flowers resigned the Senate seat for District 19 effective July 11.
