McDaniel: Miss. moving forward with suit
Thursday morning’s ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold the federal health care law essentially quashed legal challenges filed in 27 states to the reform legislation more commonly known as “Obamacare.”
Quashed in all states – save one – said the lead attorney on a May 2010 lawsuit filed on behalf of Mississippi and then-Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant.
“The only one that hasn’t could be the one right there in Hattiesburg,” said state Sen. Chris McDaniel, R-Ellisville.
Like its brethren states’ lawsuits, the ruling gutted the majority of Mississippi’s arguments stating the federal government lacked the authority to require individuals to have medical coverage or face tax penalties.
