The Republicans maintained control of the state Senate Tueday by a similar margin as they have enjoyed recently. Depending on how the final vote tally turns out along with absentee and affidavit ballots, the state Senate should be GOP controlled with 27 or 28 seats giving incoming Lt. Governor Tate Reeves a strong bench to work with.
Interesting notes:
* Republican newcomer Melanie Sojourner defeated incumbent Democrat Sen. Bob Dearing in SD 37
* Republican Sen. Giles Ward is leading Democratic challenger Steven Kilgore by 84 votes in SD 18. Absentees and affidavits have yet to be counted.
