No review for special legislative pension
State lawmakers’ special pension is unlikely to be addressed in a study commission’s report next month on funding changes to the Public Employees Retirement System despite Gov. Haley Barbour saying recently that it, too, could be reviewed.
Mississippi legislators altered the pension system in 1989, giving themselves a second helping of retirement benefits in addition to those regular state employees receive.
The PERS study commission Barbour created in August was not specifically directed to look at the Supplemental Legislative Retirement Plan, but Barbour has recently said SLRP also could be under review.
