I admit it… I’m a city boy. I enjoy the convenience that living in the city offers – the neighborhood grocery store, the corner drug store, various restaurants – all within a hop, skip, and jump from my doorstep. But while I may be a city boy, I do know a little something about the country, thanks to my grandparents and family in north Mississippi.
One old saying I remember hearing from my kin folk is that milking a dry udder gets you nothing but kicked off the milking stool. That’s good advice when a city boy tries his hand on a Mississippi farm. It’s also good advice for politicians when they want to raise taxes, especially in a recession.
Cue Chicago city boy Barack Obama…
The President has outlined a plan that he says will reduce the long term deficit by some $3 trillion. He plans to achieve this by raising $1.5 trillion in new tax revenue from the “wealthiest of Americans” with what he’s calling the “Buffett Tax” (in honor of pro-tax billionaire Warren Buffett) while saving approximately $2 trillion from overseas troop withdrawals, lower debt interest, and cuts to benefit programs.
Let me see… Buffett… Buffett? Didn’t I see his name in the press recently? Oh yes, that’s right… CEO Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway, the eighth-largest public company in the world according to Forbes, admitted to owing taxes for 2002 through 2009, according to the New York Post. I thought he just loved to pay taxes and wanted to pay more, yet he hasn’t even paid what he owes now!
And the President is listening to this guy? Are you in there, McFly?
Obama & Company are promoting class discrimination by way of taxation, plain and simple. They are appealing to their voting base by vilifying those who have achieved more, essentially creating an “us versus them” environment between the haves and the have-nots.
Socio-economic status should not determine how you are treated by the government, no matter if you are down on your luck or high on the mountain of success. Taxpayers are taxpayers and we all deserve to keep more of our money. Instead, we have a President who views your hard earned money as government “revenue” and he wants more of it.
When you’re struggling to make ends meet, as many Americans are under this President, it’s easy to blame someone else for your lack of success; it’s easy to see those who have more than you as the enemy, especially when you compare their lifestyle to yours; it’s easy to be tricked into thinking you should have what they have without the hard work and personal effort. The President should be ashamed of himself for appealing to our most heinous sense of greed in these times of weakness. America should expect more from her President.
You see, government’s role should be to offer every citizen the equal opportunity to succeed on their own merit in a safe and free environment, not to ensure that we do so equally. Government should encourage and promote wealth and prosperity, not mandate it or redistribute it through subsidies and handouts.
As former President Ronald Reagan once said, “Government does not solve problems; it subsidizes them.” Only the private sector creates wealth; government only takes wealth and redistributes it, which is what President Obama continues to promote.
Individual responsibility is the key to government success. Without individual commitment to the core principles of hard work, self-reliance, individual responsibility and the like, our government will soon crumble beneath a load of burdensome handouts to those who want it all for nothing. It is perfectly acceptable to tell people that they can’t have their cake and eat it too. Not everyone is going to have and succeed as much as the next person, nor was that the intent of the Founding Fathers. Opportunity for all to succeed is the rallying cry, not equality of success.
Instead of rising above the rhetoric, Obama continues to exacerbate America’s ills. Most Americans know the obvious answer is to cut government spending so it balances with revenue, even if it hurts us all for a period of time. “Raising revenue” means more taxes for someone, and even if it’s not me, I’m not for it. Taxpayers shouldn’t be discriminated against because they earn more than I do. We’re all Americans, despite what’s in our wallets. And truth is, under this administration, most of our wallets are lighter, even for the wealthiest Americans.
Obama & Company need to understand that they are milking a dry udder, and we’re about to kick them all off the milking stool, starting right here in Mississippi this year with the Democrats in the state House.
That’s right, Mississippi Democrats… you wallow with pigs, you get dirty.
This city boy does know a thing or two about the country after all.
