Hood’s oil spill lawsuit should stay right here
WHEN ATTORNEY General Jim Hood sued claims czar Kenneth Feinberg in Hinds County Chancery Court, it was because he wanted the case heard in Mississippi.
Mr. Hood claims that Mr. Feinberg has not turned over all the documents that Mr. Hood sought relating to claims by Mississippi residents. The attorney general asked for records of BP oil-spill-related claims by workers and business owners who gave him permission to review their personal financial information.
Now Mr. Feinberg wants to have the case heard in federal court, not state court. Among other reasons cited, The Associated Press reports, Mr. Feinberg says that because the spill happened on the Outer Continental Shelf, the federal court should have jurisdiction.
