JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) _ A 12-member committee will look at the structure of the Public Employees Retirement System in Mississippi and recommend improvements to keep the fund solvent.
On Tuesday, Governor Haley Barbour announced the creation of the PERS Study Commission.
He says the group will work to protect the interest of taxpayers and current and retired state employees.
Barbour says the current path the system is operating on relies too much on increased contributions from taxpayers.
The PERS Study Commission will recommend improvements to the system’s financial, management and investment structure.
