Election ’11: GOP voters pick lt. gov.

In the Republican primary elections on Tuesday, the GOP locked up one top statewide seat and advanced Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant on in his run for governor.

In this election, the tail wagged the dog with state Treasurer Tate Reeves winning the Republican primary for lieutenant governor and taking the office outright. No Democrat is in the lieutenant governor’s race and it is unlikely other-party candidates would seriously compete in the Nov. 8 general election.

Reeves can bask in the glory of victory until January, when he’s sworn in and begins the constitutional duties of the lieutenant governor to preside over the 52-member Senate.
