Billy Hewes Campaign for Lt. Governor today called on his opponent Tate Reeves to immediately apologize for his campaign’s latest false mail piece. In his latest mailer, Reeves claims Hewes supports consolidating schools within counties under one administration. The mail piece has reportedly been sent to areas with high performing primarily white school districts within counties that also have primarily black districts such as the City of Clinton in Hinds County, the City of Columbus in Lowndes County and the City of Meridian in Lauderdale County. Reports indicate the mail piece also went to homes in Madison, Desoto, and Marion Counties.
“This is race-baiting scare tactics, plain and simple,” said Hewes Spokesman Keith Plunkett. “At some point, describing or opponents many attempts as misleading or false doesn’t seem to fit the level this is stooping to. His desperation is reaching new lows. No doubt he felt compelled to do this when he realized Senator Hewes’ Game Plan and discussion of the issues is taking center stage in engaging people across the state. It is unfortunate that Mr. Reeves prefers to use falsehoods about what is in the Game Plan for Mississippi rather than telling the Mississippi voters what his plans are if he were elected. He owes the people of this state, and especially the recipients of this mailer, an apology.”
