The Hill – Palazzo, other freshman haven’t introduced legislation

More than six months after being sworn in to office, a handful of Republican freshman lawmakers have yet to introduce a single piece of legislation.

The three House Republicans and a GOP senator were swept into office in a wave election, part of a freshman class that promised to change Washington, D.C.

Another five GOP freshmen in the House and one House Democrat are not credited with being the main author of any legislation, according to the legislative website Thomas. The members are Reps. Rick Berg (R-N.D.), Mo Brooks (R-Ala.), Scott DesJarlais (R-Tenn.), Steven Palazzo (R-Miss.), Martha Roby (R-Ala.) and Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.). However, they have issued press releases noting that they have co-authored bills and/or provided information to The Hill that indicates they offered amendments in committee. Thomas credits one lawmaker per bill as the original sponsor.

Palazzo spokesman Hunter Lipscomb said Palazzo’s No. 1 priority is “providing top-notch constituent services to his district,” citing the lawmaker’s work on the future of NASA space flight.
