Officials: Cold med law aids drug war
State officials say methamphetamine production has dropped drastically in the year since Mississippi implemented one of the country’s toughest anti-meth laws.
The number of meth labs found by the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics since July 1, 2010 – the day a law requiring a doctor’s prescription to buy any cold medicine that contains ephedrine or pseudoephedrine went into effect – has been about a third of the number from the prior year.
“Mississippi’s prescription-only law has had more impact on narcotics enforcement than any other legislation in the MBN’s history,” Director Marshall Fisher said.
