BRYANT MAKES APPOINTMENTS TO SENATE COMMITTEES
JACKSON – Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant announced today the appointments of Videt Carmichael, R-Meridian, to the Joint Legislative Budget Committee and Walter Michel, R-Jackson as the Chairman of the Public Property Committee.
“These appointments are crucial as we begin looking ahead to the next Fiscal Year beginning in July,” Bryant said. “The appointments of Sen. Carmichael and Sen. Michel make it a seamless transition. I believe as the Joint Legislative Budget Committee prepares to begin looking over projections for the next Fiscal Year, it is imperative to have people like Sen. Carmichael working with me to begin the important task of crafting a FY 2013 state budget. In addition, because of Sen. Michel’s real estate experience, he is well prepared to chair the Public Property Committee.”
Carmichael will replace the late Sen. Jack Gordon on the Committee. Carmichael is currently the Vice Chairman of Appropriations and Chairman of the Senate Education Committee. He has served in the Mississippi Senate since 2000.
Michel will become Chairman of the Senate Public Property Committee, a position also formerly held by Gordon. Michel is currently the Chairman of the Economic Development Committee and Vice Chairman of Business and Financial Institutions in the Senate. He has served in the Mississippi Senate since 1999.
