Secretary of State sued over Eminent Domain Petition
Jackson, MS—Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann, in his official capacity as Secretary of State, was served with a lawsuit Thursday, June 2, 2011, by Leland Speed regarding the Eminent Domain initiative. The lawsuit seeks to stop the Secretary of State from placing the Eminent Domain initiative language on the November 8, 2011 General Election ballot.
“Approximately 119,692 Mississippi citizens signed petitions to place eminent domain on the General Election ballot. By state law, I am required, and I intend, to place the initiative on the ballot unless otherwise ordered to do so by the Supreme Court.”
The hearing on this case will be held July 25, 2011 at 9:00 am at the Hinds County Circuit Courthouse.
