Palazzo Votes to Cut Spending; Keep the Government Open

Washington, D.C. – Representative Steven Palazzo (MS-04) issued the following statement today regarding the continuing resolution to avoid a government shutdown.

“Today, I cast a critical vote to cut additional spending and continue the spending cuts that the House has passed so far this year. The bill I voted for will fully fund military appropriations for the remainder of the fiscal year. This provides certainty to military personnel and their families who sacrifice for our freedom. In addition, the bill cuts $12 billion in one week alone. The one week continuing resolution bans taxpayer-funded abortions in Washington, D.C., and prevents Guantanamo Bay detainees from being transferred into the U.S.”

Palazzo added, “The House has provided Democrat leadership a bill to keep government open. The fate of continued government operations is now in the hands of the Democrat controlled Senate and White House. They must not fail to lead.”

Palazzo continued, “Like many of you, I am still frustrated that the president’s healthcare slush fund was not fully defunded. With that in mind, I have co-sponsored Representative Bachman’s Healthcare Fiscal Responsibility Act, which removes the $105.5 billion automatic funding that was buried into the healthcare reform bill,” concluded Palazzo.
