CL peers into integration in Yazoo City
Gov. Haley Barbour drew national criticism for his praise of the Citizens’ Council, saying the group helped ensure a peaceful integration in his hometown of Yazoo City.
Barbour, who has presidential aspirations, later came back with a statement in which he called segregation and the Citizens’ Council “indefensible.”
Some of those from Yazoo City have come to his defense, saying those who had been leaders of the council did help to ensure there was no violence during school integration there.
