Desoto Times – John Caldwell to seek MDOT post

DeSoto County Schools Director of Transportation John Caldwell announced Thursday he planned to seek the open seat of Northern District Transportation Commissioner.

The post was vacant upon the sudden death of former District 2 Transportation Commissioner Bill Minor who died last week of a heart attack on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

“We’re in,” Caldwell said, adding he planned to file the necessary formal papers early next week.

Caldwell, 49, a Republican, last ran for Northern District Transportation Commissioner in 2003, losing to Minor, a Democrat. The non-partisan post represents 17 counties in Northern Mississippi.
