Voters in Jackson’s Ward 1 will choose new rep in special election
Northeast Jackson voters likely will be called back to the polls sometime in February to choose a new City Council representative, and already some potential candidates have emerged.
Ward 1 Councilman Jeff Weill, the lone Republican on the seven-member council, was elected Tuesday to Hinds County Circuit Court. He said he will continue to serve on the council “as long as I legally can.”
“I will continue to vigorously represent northeast Jackson on the council until whenever I am sworn in as judge. That possibly will be during the last week of the year,” Weill said Wednesday morning as he picked up his campaign signs throughout the district.
