Texas HS Football Game Goes 12 Overtimes
The game was tied at a reasonable 28 ending regulation, at which point the players had no idea what they were in store for: twelve consecutive periods of grueling symmetry as the teams traded shots until 1 in the morning, before Jacksonville’s Rodrigo Carreon finally ended the madness with a 19-yard field goal. The final score? 84-81. I’m tired from just reading about it.
According to the Associated Press, the previous longest high-school games on record were both nine overtime affairs, so Jacksonville’s endurance victory sets the new bar pretty high for any other teams who may have aspirations of ridiculously even-matched football marathons. I guess it only makes sense that the record reside in Texas, though.
