Newton’s amazing ride more like a movie script
What Auburn junior quarterback Cam Newton has done to defenses every week this football season is downright ridiculous.
Every performance includes a handful of plays so extraordinary that fans will buzz about them for years, such as Newton’s third-quarter 49-yard TD run in last week’s 24-17 victory over previously unbeaten LSU.
Now you know ….In the 21 individual national college football awards being given at the end of this season, the SEC has had at least one recipient in 17 of them in the last three seasons. Since 2007, the only four awards that an SEC player or coach has not won are the Bednarik Award (best defensive player), Biletnikoff Award (best wide receiver), Lou Groza Award (top placekicker) and Paterno Award (coach of the year).
He dodged and darted through one of the nation’s best defenses like he was sidestepping fire ant beds, then carried LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson, a projected top-five NFL draft choice, the last five yards into the end zone like Peterson was a rodeo clown trying to stop a bull.
